my indonesia
I grew up in Surabaya, Indonesia and left when I was 17. I moved to Immenstaad, in Germany and I haven’t been back since I left. I did go to Singapore in 2003 for a month for my degree, and I stopped over in Surabaya for a couple of days. It only ended up being 3 days and I didn’t do much either. I was at home with my dad and I went to the malls and didn’t really look at anything when I was there. I was too upset about the fact, that I had missed my flight a couple days earlier from Frankfurt airport, which made my one week stay in Indo so much shorter. I hate Frankfurt airport. Anyways, I missed the flight because they didn’t announce it and so my week in Surabaya ended up just being 3 days. So that doesn’t count as being there for me.
This year was the first time I have been back. I was invited to my friend Angie’s wedding, where I was also her one of her bridesmaids. I had a missed call in December 2008 one night, a voicemail with Angie’s voice not too happy about the fact that I didn’t pick up. Oops! So I rang her back, and she broke the news that James had proposed to her. She told me how it happened and I cried. (I know, I’m a sad sop!) It was just beautiful! She then said, that the wedding is going to be in Indonesia. I got really excited and I started to look for flights and deals. Eventually I found something, and the day finally came when we flew out to my home. And this is what I saw, love and miss…my Indonesia.
